A Brief Report on SACRED Trust’s 16th Summer Computer Training Course at Chikkamuduwadi, Kanakapura taluk, Ramanagara district, Rural Karnataka

In response to the requests made by the Heads of two Government schools – G.H.P.S., Chikkamuduwadi and G.H.P.S., Chikkenahalli village, both located in Kanakapura taluk, the SACRED Trust is holding free computer training course of 45 days duration at the said schools.  The training programme was commenced on the 8th of April 2019; will go on till 28th May 2019.  This is the 16th Summer Computer Training Camps being conducted by the Trust.  As in the past, a Valedictory event  will be held on Saturday, the 1st of June 2019.

Over 100 students are being trained in Computer skills. 62 students are attending  the programme at GHPS Chikkamudwadi village and about 43 students at GHPS, Chikkenahalli village. Students studying in 4th standard to 12th standard at Chikkamuduwadi, Gaanaalu, Timmasandra, Sankranti Tandya, Halligudde Tandya, Kotahalli and Santegate are attending the training programme at Chikkamuduwadi Centre.  Shri Nagaraju, SACRED Trust’s Computer Literacy Coordinator is imparting training at Chikkamuduwadi Centre where 6 computers donated by Ocwen Financial Solutions Pvt Ltd have been set up for the purpose.

At  Chikkenahalli, the Trust has set up a computer centre at the GHPS(Govt Higher Primary School) whereas, the school Teachers themselves are imparting the training; not depending on SACRED Trust to arrange for teaching computer skills.

INAUGURAL EVENT: A formal inaugural event was held on 23rd April 2019 at G.H.P.S., Chikkamuduwadi.  The event was organized by Smt.Geetha., Head Mistress, and her colleagues Smt.Umadevi, Smt.Prema, Shri V.Srinivas, Incharge, BEO/BRC; Shri. Shivakumar, President of SDMC, GHPS, C.M.Wadi and Shri Bhadraswami, SDMC Member.

The highlight of the Inaugural event was the presence of three Senior Officers (Mr.Vijay Rotti, Mr.Hari Prasad Jayaram and Mr.Pradeep Kumar) of Ocwen Financial Solutions Pvt Ltd, Pritech Park, Bellandur village, Sarjapur Marathahalli Ring Road, Bangalore as guests of honour.  Dr.Muniraju, resident of Cheeluru village and President of Ramanagara Dt, Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha and his associates.  The function was presided over the by Shri Nagaraja Rao, well known educationist, science teacher and retired BEO of Kanakapura taluk.

Dr.V.N.Vasudev, Founder & Managing Trustee of SACRED Trust, spoke about the purpose of spreading computer literacy and English language in rural areas. Vasudev said that the Trust has been putting efforts to create VIKAS (Village India Knowledge Aided Society).

Sri.Nagaraju, Computer-Literacy Coordinator spoke about the Training programme.  The students are being trained in MS WORD, NOTE PAD, EXCEL, POWER POINT, PAINT, MOVIE MAKER, INTRODUCTION TO INTERNET and in Web Browsing. The students are also allowed to learn typing in English and Kannada (Nudi software).

Mr.Vijay Rotti and his colleague Mr.Hariprasad spoke about the importance of learning computer skills and gave a brief introduction about the support that their organization OCWEN has been giving to SACRED Trust since an year for spreading computer literacy in the villages of southern Karnataka. They encouraged the students to ask questions and interact with them not only on computer related subjects but also about the services Ocwen has been rendering.  The students very enthusiastically interacted with both Vijay and Hariprasad.  On behalf of OCWEN, Vijay and his colleagues donated 10 brand new Tabs for use by the Teachers while teaching science subjects and experiments. To a question raised by a student whether she could get an opportunity to visit Ocwen offices in Bangalore, Mr.Vijay invited the students to send messages to his email and said that he would talk to the management and try to arrange the visit of some 5 students to Ocwen’s office in Bengaluru. Vijay and his colleagues also donated a brand new computer to the President of KRRS for use at his Cheeluru Village School.

Shri Nagaraja Rao, Retired BEO spoke elaborately on the necessity of teaching science subjects in a very simple but effective manner not only using traditional gadgets but also utilizing modern technologies. He expressed his long felt intention to establish two SCIENCE CENTRES, one at his village Gudibande and the other at Doddamuduwadi in the Premises of SACRED Trust’s Rural HQ in Kanakapura tq

Dr.Muniraju, President of KRRS, spoke briefly and impressed upon the young students to appreciate the hard work of their parents in farm lands and also learn the many skills of farming which are not available in text books.

At the end of this training programme, all the students will be issued a ‘Computer Literate’ certificate as in the past 15 years. A test will be conducted for selecting 9 best students in for honouring them with Prizes on the Valedictory day.

At the ongoing summer camp, besides computer training, the students are also exposed to certain skills, crafts, indoor games and cultural activities.
